Coronation Street viewers are forced to say goodbye to the Rovers Return as it closes its iconic doors for refurbishment: ‘The end of an era’

Coronation Street viewers have been left in tears after a dramatic ‘end of an era’ during Wednesday night’s episode. 

Earlier this week, the Rover Return was closed down for extensive refurbishment with all staff having their contracts terminated with immediate effect. 

However during tonight’s show the pub was closed down leaving fans in shock and some in tears. 

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one user said: ‘Not the Rovers getting boarded up’. 

Another penned: ‘Surely this can’t actually be the end for the Rovers?’

The official Coronation Street account also shared a post, it read: ‘The end of an era. Goodbye to the Rovers as we know it,’ along with a broken heart. 

Fans took to the comment section with some calling the closure ‘heartbreaking’ and others calling the pub a ‘landmark’.

One person said: ‘Why mess with perfection The Rovers is Rovers! A Weatherfield landmark!’

Another wrote: ‘Too heartbreaking.’

‘The street wouldn’t be the same without the rovers return. Its the heart and soul of the street,’ said a third.

It comes as MailOnline revealed this weeks spoilers as at No.5, Gemma and Bernie help Paul prepare for his wedding, whilst In the bistro, the wedding guests take their seats.

What will be revealed?

Elsewhere Cassie storms off in a rage after being told to be quiet during the meeting with the taxi firm and just lat Kevin, Tyrone and Abi do the talking.

The meeting is interrupted by the police arriving and informing Tyrone they have reason to believe his car was involved in a hit and run incident.

In the cafe Tyrone hunts down Cassie with Evelyn and asks where Cassie was on September 11th that’s when his car was used in a hit and run.

Cassie denies she had anything to do with it but it is clear Evelyn doesn’t believe her.

Kevin finds Cassie drunk in Victoria Garden and points out that she can’t go home in her current state, Kevin offers her the couch at No.13.
