Coronation Street viewers stunned as fan favourite makes a SHOCKING exit

Coronation Street fans were left in shock as Elaine Jones appeared wave goodbye to Weatherfield for good on Monday.

The character, played by Paula Wilcox, has had a lucky escape after finally realising killer Stephen’s evil ways and ending the relationship.

Newly-single Elaine decided to leave the cobbles as she headed off to Scarborough to put some distance between her and her ex (Todd Boyce).

Waved off by son Tim (Joe Duttine) and daughter-in-law Sally (Sally Dynevor) Elaine made her exit in the back of a taxi for pastures new.

But not everyone was convinced the move was a permeant one and taking to Twitter one viewer wrote:  ‘So Elaine is leaving the street and heading to Scarborough, I think It’ll only be temporary’.

A second said: ‘Bye Elaine’.

While a third commented: ‘Elaine left and din’t tell the others about Stephen. Now Tim and Sally will be on his hit list’.

Another echoed the point writing: ‘If Elaine’s going to Scarborough then I would be worried Tim’.

Elsewhere  Paul Foreman came to the decision about ending his own life amid his battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

And Paul (Peter Ash) turned to boyfriend Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) to ask him for help ending his agony when the time came.

But the vicar was left heartbroken by the ask saying that he would never help put his beloved partner ‘down like a dog’.

It would go against his beliefs and Christian faith and after a tense conversation Paul appeared to accept that his beau would never come round to the idea.

However later Billy admitted: ‘I thought you were going to propose, when you said you wanted to talk to me’.

Paul jumped at the idea declaring: ‘It’s a good idea, I can’t get down on one knee but we should’.

However he didn’t seem totally on board with the idea of a wedding and could use it as a way of eventually getting what he wants.

While some fans were heartbroken by the scenes others were left fuming and said the assisted suicide storyline was a rehash of Hayley’s emotional pleads to Roy back in 2014.

The beloved character, played by Julie Hesmondhalgh, told her husband, David Neilson, that she wished to die after being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and later took her own life before passing away in his arms.

However the actress told The Guardian at the time that her exit was a ‘right to die’ storyline not ‘assisted suicide’.

Taking to Twitter one viewer wrote: ‘Did we not have this storyline with Roy and Hayley. Just because Paul has MND foes not mean there has to be assisted dying storyline’.

While a second said: ‘Hayley Cropper was helped to die, so it’s not the first time they’ve gone there’.

And someone else wrote: ‘Hasn’t Corrie done this storyline with Paul and Billy before with Hayley and Roy?’.
