Speaking about his injury last month Simon told The Mirror: ‘I literally just went over and rolled my ankle, outside the back of the house’.

He went on to admit that show bosses had written his injury into the show: ‘They just kind of spoke about it. It’s like when Bobby Ewing woke up in the shower [in Dallas]. No one cares after about five minutes.’

However it’s unclear when he will return to the soap, with his character currently off screens after jetting off to Spain to visit his mother Liz (Beverley Callard).

They¿re probably going to get grief. We'll watch it as a family and have fun, but then they'll feign disgust as soon as they get to the school gates' said Simon (pictured in May)
