Could Jeff Horn’s next fight be against AFL star Dusty Martin?

Jeff Horn’s promoter will try to tempt AFL star Dusty Martin into the ring.

Horn’s management firm, Duco Events, is looking to crack the Melbourne market and believes crowds will flock to see their Aussie Rules heroes in a bout.

Horn fighting in the city would certainly draw crowds but another option is two AFL stars going head to head, with 26-year-old Richmond midfielder Martin a key target.

‘I’ll tell you what, Dusty Martin making his boxing debut over three two-minute rounds, how big would that be? And don’t worry, we would pay him and his opponent very well,’ Horn’s promoter Dean Lonergan told The Herald Sun.

‘I’ll be contacting Dusty’s management and why wouldn’t I? Dusty is an amazing across-country star because as someone who lives in Auckland, I can assure you he’s starting to get a profile over there.

‘We would ideally want him to fight another AFL player because Melbourne is such a hard market to crack that we would want to go all AFL.’

It comes after Terence Crawford defeated Australian boxing icon Jeff Horn to win the WBO welterweight title.

The result means Horn – aka The Hornet – loses the belt he won by defeating Manny Pacquiao in Brisbane last year.

Crawford was a class above from start to finish, totally overwhelming Horn to hand the Australian a comprehensive defeat – his first in 20 professional fights.

Referee Robert Byrd stopped the fight with 27 seconds to go in the ninth round.

After the fight, Horn said: ‘I’m disappointed but I’m not hurt at all. Things happen. First loss as a professional. I’ll keep going, I can rebuild.’
