Couple found dead inside house in West Yorkshire

  • Police have launched investigation after young couple were found dead at home
  • Officers made discovery at 6pm last night after concerned relative raised alarm 
  • Area outside first floor flat in Rastrick, West Yorkshire, has been cordoned off

A couple have been found dead inside their home after a relative reported concerns for their safety. 

Police say they are treating their deaths as ‘unexplained’ after they were called to the property in Rastrick, West Yorkshire, last night.  

The fire service said a blaze had broken out at the first floor flat but was out by the time they arrived.

The area has been cordoned off today while forensic officers and fire safety experts carry out their investigations.   

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: ‘Police were called to Smith Crescent in Rastrick around 6pm on Monday December 18 following a concern for safety.

‘Officers attended and found the bodies of a woman and man. A scene remains in place as officers continue their enquiries.

‘At this time, the deaths are being treated as unexplained.’

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Fire crews were called to a property in Smith Crescent, Rastrick, Brighouse, at 19.30 hrs on December 18.

‘Fire engines from Rastrick and Huddersfield attended. A fire at the property was confirmed out on arrival of crews.

‘The bodies of a man and woman were found inside the property.

‘A fire investigation officer is attending the scene today to look into the circumstances around the fire.

‘West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is working alongside West Yorkshire Police as enquiries continue.

‘At this time, the deaths are being treated as unexplained.’
