Couple mocked after fundraising to pay for their WEDDING

A couple who tried to crowdfund the Italian wedding of their dreams have found themselves to be the laughing stock of social media.

But light-hearted pair Hannah Louise Miell and Jack Dudley, from the UK, appear to have taken the banter in their stride – replying to most of the commenters and poking fun at themselves – after the post went viral.

Hannah launched a GoFundMe page on September 8 in the hope of raising £6,000 to pay for ‘a dream wedding for a dreamboat’ – referring to Jack.

Hannah, who works for an animal charity helping unwanted and injured pets and Jack, who works in the Royal Navy as a submarine chef wrote that it was their dream to get married in Ravello, Italy.

In just three days the page had been shared 7,000 times and had attracted hundreds of comments – but most were lashing out at the couple’s decision to ask for help to fund their big day.

The crowdfunder raised just £55 towards its target before the page was taken down on Monday night.

Before that the post was picked up by a ‘military banter’ Facebook page where it racked up more than 500 comments.

One person wrote: ‘If you cannot afford to get married in your dream location, either wait until you can or get married somewhere you can afford.’

Another added: ‘Surely this is a joke?

‘How about the millions of other people who would just like to be able to afford to rent together make a home together, pay their bills.

‘We all have dreams in our mind but you have to save for special occasions like ‘your own wedding’.’

It appeared Jack was taking the comments in good heart and replied to many of those leaving a message although some of these have since been deleted.

The GoFundMe page explained how ‘tough’ it is for the couple when Jack is away at sea, adding that he volunteered himself to serve in Afghanistan in 2012, leading partner Hannah to feel ‘immense admiration and love for him [Jack]’.

Hannah added that her hubby-to-be is ‘an incredible, caring man who is hugely selfless’ and that he helped Hannah get through depression to become medication free.

The fundraising post ended: ‘We don’t have the money to be able to afford such a wedding which is where we need your help.

‘Please give what you can, your support means the world to us and will make a huge difference.

‘We hope we can achieve our dreams and share a once in a lifetime experience with our family.’

Jack and Hannah have been approached for a comment.
