Couple take engagement photos in Blue City of Jodhpur

It all started with a simple question – what’s your favourite colour?

That was one of the first things that Mumbai couple Brij and Namrata asked each other when they first met.

And the pair soon found out that the answer was one of many things they shared in common – they loved the colour blue.

So it was only fitting that the couple took their gorgeous engagement photos in the Blue City of Jodhpur, India.

The beautiful backdrop of deep blue windows, doorways, and walls was the perfect place for Brij and Namrata to showcase their deep love.

‘The simplicity of the blue back alleys of Jodhpur appealed to us in every way,’ the couple told Daily Mail Australia.

‘And the cityscape, in various shades of blue, was just what our hearts desired.’

While many couples want to be the stars of their engagement shoot, Brij and Namrata wanted to show off the setting as much as themselves.

The couple both share a passion for places of historical significance and architectural gems and instantly fell for the ancient city.

Brij and Namrata were in ‘awe of the architectural unity and beauty’ of Jodhpur, and knew they wanted to wed among the ‘sea of vibrant blue houses’.

‘This led us to decide that the colourful and cultural state of Rajasthan was the place we would get married in,’ they said.

‘And with our love for the colour blue, Jodhpur was our obvious pick.’

Brij and Namrata even had their wedding invitations specially designed so it could match their blue theme as well.

There are various theories as to how the older quarters of Jodhpur got their signature colour.

Some believe that the houses were painted blue to distinguish which belonged to families of the Brahmins, a priestly class at the top of India’s caste system.

Others say the indigo dye was a defense against termites that were ravaging the city’s structures, and still others claim the blue colour simply helps keep the houses cool during the hot summers.

Whatever the reason behind the blue colour, the city was exactly where Brij and Namrata wanted to make their romance official.

The couple originally met eight months ago in an arranged marriage set-up. It was a meeting that they said would go on to ‘change our lives completely’.

‘Every moment of our first meeting is etched into our hearts forever,’ they added.

‘When we look back, we might have asked each other some questions that seemed frivolous at that point but are so pertinent today.’

Including, of course, their favourite colour.

‘The pre-wedding shoot got us even closer, and we are hoping that every moment from our wedding in this beautiful city enchants us and sweeps us off our feet!’ they added.

Their pictures were taken by Samsara Photography, who revealed that the couple were adamant that the photographers capture the beauty of Jodhpur in the engagement shoot.

‘Because the couple insisted on not just capturing themselves, but the rich culture and history of the city, we ensured we shot the city as well in every frame!’ the team told Daily Mail Australia.

‘We also tried drone shots to get the bird’s eye view of the city to capture its rustic yet royal appeal, along with the couple’s love for each other.’
