Couple who are managing to save $5,000 for their wedding day

Saving for a wedding can be a difficult task, but one couple are managing to put away an extra $5,000 before their special day.

Melbourne couple, Campbell and Clemence White, started using the car sharing platform, Car Next Door, last year.

‘We’ve been using the platform since November last year and we’ve just been doing the numbers and by our wedding in October we will have made about $5,000,’ Clemence told Today Extra.

Like most soon-to-be newlyweds, they are looking for ways to make the cost of their wedding that little bit easier to manage.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s MoneySmart website suggests that the average cost of an Australian wedding is $36,000.

With a price that high, any little bit of extra cash is sure to help.

Clemence was the one who came across the site and thought it would be the perfect fit for them as the couple don’t often use their car.

Instead, they catch public transport and ride their bikes around the city.

Before long they listed their Toyota Corolla on the site.

This being said, it did take a little while for the couple to get used to sharing their vehicle with the general public.

‘I jumped on the car next door website and it has so much information on there and it puts your mind at ease in terms of insurance and in case something goes wrong,’ Campbell explained.

The site also talks through the monthly fee and how the company deals with any problems that arise.

Once you install a GPS unit to the car, you’re good to go.

With the extra money they’re making they plan on splurging on a special car for their wedding day.
