Couple with Down’s syndrome stun with The Greatest Showman first dance

A couple with Down’s syndrome have tied the knot and stunned guests with a choreographed first dance – after being apart for nearly two years.

Ffion Martin, 23, and Chris Miller, 39, from Carmarthen, west Wales, first met three years ago through their performing arts classes.

They fell in love, with Chris getting down on one knee and proposing in Ffion’s garden in July 2020.

But they were forced to spend nearly two years apart during the pandemic.

They finally tied the knot last month – walking down the aisle to This is me from the 2017 hit film The Greatest Showman.

At their reception, they then surprised guests by busting out their moves to Rewrite the Stars from the same film.

Ffion said, ‘Chris makes me laugh and makes me the person I am.

‘Chris is a real gentleman and he’s amazing.’

While new-hubby Chris added, ‘Ffion has changed my life forever.’

The pair, who were both adopted, are now living with Ffion’s mum, Janice Martin, 65,  but plan to buy a house together.

Janice, a retired advocacy coordinator, described the wedding as a very ‘special day’.

She said, ‘Their first dance was beautiful, and they chose Rewrite the Stars as they wanted to rewrite history and prove Down syndrome doesn’t hold you back.

‘Every time I looked over at them both they were just so happy and smiley.

‘I’ve always told Ffion that she can do anything.’

After first hitting it off when they met at their drama school three years ago, Chris and Ffion had to spent most of the last two years apart, shielding due to coronavirus.

‘They FaceTimed a lot,’ Janice said.

‘They then decided that they wanted to get engaged so when lockdown restrictions lifted and Chris and his mum could come into the garden, he proposed.

‘He got down on one knee and it was so lovely.’

Chris and Ffion have a passion for dance, and choreographed part of their first dance so they could surprise their guests at last month’s wedding.

The reception was held at the Hijinx Academy in Carmarthen, which teachers performance arts to disabled people.

‘It was a magical moment,’ Janice said. ‘A beautiful day.

‘I chose Ffion when I decided to adopt her and it makes it even more special seeing her at her wedding.’
