Courteney Cox has joined the cast of Scream 7.
On Wednesday, a source close to the 60-year-old actress revealed to Variety that she would be retuning to the hit horror franchise and reprise her role as Gale Weathers.
The official Scream movies Instagram account confirmed the news via their Story by resharing the article and including a link.
However, just two-and-a-half months ago the raven haired beauty said that she had not officially signed on to the project even though it was confirmed to be in the works.
‘I’m not officially signed on. I’m not, but there will be a Scream 7,’ she told the outlet at the time.
Though details surrounds the plot and casting have been kept under wraps, the actress said she was awaiting a final script.

She also noted that she was ‘excited’ that Kevin Williamson would directing the film — his first in the beloved franchise.
‘You can’t get better than that choice. It’s going to be fun,’ she said of Williamson, who was a screenwriter for the 1996 flagship film.
During the September interview, the Friends star said insisted that writing bring back her ex David Arquette’s character Dewey despite being killed off in the fifth movie.
She said, ‘I understand the reasons they did it, but whoa! Talk about a missed character.
‘Dewey is so loved by Scream fans. They have to figure it out.’
However, there are no official plans to revive Arquette’s character in the upcoming film.
Courteney and her actor ex said ‘I do’ back in 1999 and welcomed daughter Coco, 20, in 2004.
Arquette had starred in the first five films before his Dewey Riley was killed off in 2022’s Scream.

Aside the original film, Courteney has returned in all other Scream releases, including 1997’s Scream 2, 2000’s Scream 3, 2011’s Scream 4, 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI

At the time, she explained that was no timeline in place about deciding whether or not she would return to the franchise.
‘They’re rewriting all the time. It’s not like I don’t know what’s going on,’ she shared.

Scream 7 is slated to hit theatres on February 27, 2026.
Other cast members starring in the highly anticipated film includes Neve Campbell, Patrick Dempsey, Celeste O’Connor, Isabel May and Roger Jackson.
Back in late July, Neve Cambell confirmed her return to the franchise and opened up about how ‘grateful’ she is that the iconic films have had a lasting impact.
‘I love these movies, they are so much fun to be a part of, I’m so grateful for them, I could never have imagined being a part of a movie that would have lasted this many decades,’ she gushed.
