Cricket star and former Top Gear presenter Freddie Flintoff has become embroiled in a multi-million pound legal row with a publicly listed energy firm.

AIM-listed Eqtec has filed a lawsuit against property group Logik Developments, which lists Flintoff as a director, in a dispute over plans to build a processing facility in Deeside in north Wales near a Toyota engine plant.

Eqtec, which develops technology to convert waste into renewable energy such as hydrogen, has accused Logik of breaking a partnership agreement signed in December 2020. It alleges Logik has been trying to sell the site without Eqtec’s approval.

Eqtec is claiming £4 million as part of the lawsuit, which it says relates to payments to Logik in connection with the project.

‘It has been frustrating to have to direct our energies this year towards resolution of issues with Logik, rather than towards further progressing the project,’ said Eqtec boss David Palumbo.

Flintoff owns at least a quarter of Logik, according to Companies House. The former Lancashire and England all-rounder is described on Logik’s website as having a ‘deep understanding of the property industry’ as well as a ‘long-standing affinity with the North’.

The presenter is still recovering from a near-fatal crash last year while filming Top Gear.

Logik said in a statement that it rebutted Eqtec’s allegations ‘entirely’ and added: ‘In the event that any claim is served on Logik, this will be defended to the fullest extent.’
