Incredible trick mobster with a $1MILLION bounty on his head used to avoid being assassinated – only to be finally gunned down in a hail of bullets after trying to buy an armoured car
- Crime lord was on the hunt for an armoured car to protect himself from gangs
- Mahmoud ‘Brownie’ Ahmad had a $1million price on his head before his death
- The former prison inmate was also planning an escape from his woes overseas
A slain underworld figure had been arranging to buy an armoured car and would only stay in one place for 15 minutes at a time after he found out there was a price on his head.
NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Dave Hudson told a budget estimates hearing on Wednesday that police had spoken to Mahmoud ‘Brownie’ Ahmad several times in recent months before he was gunned down in a ‘hail of bullets’.
He revealed police had warned the kingpin about a $1million bounty on his head and that Ahmad told police he was looking into protecting himself from rival gangs.
‘He told officers he was in search of an armoured vehicle to protect himself and he only stayed at places for 15 minutes at a time,’ he said.

Police suspect reprisals to occur after the crime boss’s demise last week, while mourners for Ahmad paid their respects on Tuesday
‘As soon as Ramadan was over he [said he] would be returning to Lebanon and he was only in Australia to collect on debts that were owed to him.’
But the man known as ‘Mr Big’ in criminal circles was shot dead while visiting an associate in a suburban street in Greenacre at 9.30pm on May 27.
More than one person ‘lay in wait’ outside the house before opening fire.
Officers from Strike Force Raptor were in the area at the time and arrived to find a dying Ahmad lying in the street.
Homicide Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said at the time Ahmad was ‘always going to end up on a slab in a morgue or end up back in jail’.
‘Unfortunately for him, he’s in the morgue as we speak.’
‘We’d be here for a long time if we were to go through the history of everyone he was in conflict with.’
‘He didn’t care and didn’t want to hide and he’s borne the consequences of his actions,’ Detective Superintendent Doherty said.

A harrowing picture shows Sydney underworld kingpin ‘Mr Big’ fighting for life after he was brazenly executed in a hail of bullets in Sydney
The high-profile murder came after the crime figure had a narrow escape from an attempt on his life in a park in Rushcutters Bay last October.
Authorities fear last week’s brutal execution will spark yet another escalation in the bloody gang war raging on Sydney’s streets.
Ahmad had only recently been released from prison after serving five years for the manslaughter of an underworld rival at a Sydney scrap yard in 2016.
Authorities said it was a ‘miracle’ nobody else was hurt in the barrage of bullets.
‘My understanding is a lot of people were in the street at the time,’ Homicide Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said last week.
Police have appealed for other people in the area at the time to come forward, particularly those with mobile phone or dashcam footage.
