Cristiano Ronaldo has handed Juventus a significant boost by returning to training in time for their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Ajax.

The Portuguese star has been out of action since March 25 after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty with Portugal.

However he appears to be fit and raring to go for the Italian giants as they travel to Amsterdam looking to move one step closer to a European title.

The Portuguese star was seen stretching on the turf as he got loose for his first training session in weeks.

Players were then put through their paces as they trained for the final time before departing for Holland.

At one point manager Massimiliano Allegri held a brief team meeting to deliver some final tactical instructions before the players continued their practice.

Despite the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s absence, Juve have claimed nine points out of nine in Serie A but it will be a relief to have him back on Wednesday night.

Speaking after Saturday night’s narrow 2-1 win over AC Milan, Allegri gave a positive update on his star man’s fitness.

‘He [Ronaldo] always feels ready, but I told him to rest [against Milan],’ the Italian said.

‘We are confident of having him at Ajax on Wednesday.’

During his first season in Turin, Ronaldo has scored 24 goals in 36 appearances and provided 12 assists.

He is targeting a fourth consecutive Champions League title after winning three in a row with Real Madrid before leaving for Italy in a £100million deal last summer.

The Italian giants were last crowned European champions in 1996 but lost in the finals of 2015 and 2017, with Ronaldo on target for Real in the latter in Cardiff.
