Crown Princess Mary of Denmark shares previously unseen photos of twins to mark their ninth birthday

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has shared four previously unseen photos of twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine to mark their ninth birthday.

The adorable snaps were taken by the proud mother, 47, over the past few months, presumably in Denmark.

Two show the close siblings wrapping each other up in a loving embrace, while another features Prince Vincent with his two older siblings, Princess Isabella, 12, and Prince Christian, 14.

The final shot shows Princess Josephine dressed in riding gear attending to her horse, looking as though she’s about to plant a kiss on its nose.

Prince Vincent, born 26 minutes before his sister in Copenhagen’s Rigshospitalet, one of the largest hospitals in Denmark, is fourth in line to the Danish throne, while Princess Josephine is fifth.

In-keeping with Danish royal tradition, the twins’ names were not released until their christening on April 14, 2011.

Earlier this week the Danish royals looked in high spirits as they posed for a family photocall in Switzerland.

Crown Prince Frederik, 51, joined wife Mary and their children for a picturesque morning in the snow-capped mountains.

Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine begin a 12-week spring term on Monday at the Lemania-Verbier International School in Switzerland.

The children usually attend the Tranegård School in Gentofte, Denmark, and are attending the boarding school for three months in Bagnes, Switzerland to give them a more international experience.

Princess Mary is staying with them while they are in school, and Prince Frederik will travel between there and Denmark for his official duties.

The photocall comes after Austrialian-born Mary penned a heartfelt letter to Australia’s Prime Minister amid the bushfire crisis, offering her condolences to families who have lost their homes and loved ones.

The future Queen, who was born and raised in Hobart, Tasmania, said that the time of ‘great hardship’ in her home country has left her and Prince Frederik feeling deeply sympathetic.

As millions of people around the world follow the news from afar, Princess Mary said she felt ‘proud of my Australian heritage’ to see so many of her countrymen coming together.

The love story between Princess Mary and Prince Frederick has been well documented; the couple met in a Sydney bar and Mary, born in Tasmania, moved to the northern hemisphere to be with Frederik.

In December, in a candid interview with Australian Women’s Weekly, the Crown Princess revealed that moving to the other side of the world was difficult.

She said: ‘I did experience a feeling of loneliness – short-term – when I first moved to Denmark,’ she told the magazine.

‘Moving to Denmark was a huge change in my life – a new culture, new language, new friends, and another way of life.’ ‘So, I see it as quite natural that at times I felt quite alone or a little bit like I was on the outside looking in.’
