Crown Princess Mary receives award for her work to prevent childhood bullying

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark has launched back into her royal duties following the loss of her father-in-law Prince Henrik in February.

And instead of presenting an award at her most recent event, it was Mary herself who was recognised for her achievements.

Appearing at Brøndby Stadium in Denmark during a match between the Danish men’s national football team and Panama on Thursday, the 46-year-old received a 50,000 euro (AUD $80,000) UEFA Foundation for Children Donation on behalf of The Mary Foundation.

The effortlessly stylish princess rugged up for the occasion in a chic turtleneck, AUD $3,000 Moncler Phemia wool blend jacket and a pair of AUD $2.100 over-the-knee suede boots from Gianvito Rossi.

She wore her hair loosely curled over her shoulders and accessorised with a Tod’s joy leather shopper bag over her arm.

The princess was all smiles despite the cold weather and was seen chatting to children and socialising with attendees before heading to the centre of the stadium to accept the donation.

The Mary Foundation received the award for their ongoing efforts to prevent bullying and ensure children’s wellbeing in football clubs across Denmark.

The funds from the donation will be used to create a safe and enjoyable environment for young football players across the country.

The project itself has been dubbed ‘Klubfidusen’ and is one of the foundation’s many projects focused on preventing bullying and boosting wellbeing among children.

‘Klubfidusen is about creating a football club culture, where all children feel comfortable and welcome,’ the website reads.

‘Klubfidusen was initially trialed in five pilot clubs, but today, clubs all over the country can order the project material.’

It was started when it was found that one in eight children in the 3rd-5th grade have at some point dropped a leisure activity due to bullying or poor welfare.
