Cruz Beckham faces backlash for lifting weights aged 12

They have been heavily documenting their family holiday to the States on social media.

But Cruz Beckham, 12, caused a stir among fans with his most recent Instagram post – which documented his weight training session at the gym.

In the clip, David and Victoria’s youngest son is seen performing a bench press, with the help of his brother Brooklyn – but followers were quick to claim Cruz was ‘too young’ to be embarking on such levels of fitness.

‘No gains!’: On Wednesday Cruz Beckham, 12, documented his weight training session at the gym on Instagram – but faced backlash from fans who claimed he was ‘too young’

In the video Cruz, clad in a grey vest and tracksuit bottoms, is seen practicing a chest press in the gym, with two weights on each side of the bar.

Managing to puff his way through four reps, Cruz playfully poked fun at his efforts by captioning the clip: ‘No gains with @chasenfitness @brooklynbeckham @danieldarri55’

However, his followers immediately took to the comments to pen their concern, and explain he was ‘too young’ to be lifting weights like his older brothers.

One fan kicked things off by writing: ‘You’re too young to do that thing. Just enjoy life as a kid,’ while others added in agreement: ‘U R too young to do this’ and ‘at this age?!’ (sic)

A further fan praised his efforts, but urged him to take his fitness slowly, writing: ‘Amazing!!! But @cruzbeckham be careful not to lift too much weight at once’

Other followers however were more stern in their opinions – claiming Cruz should not be pushing himself in the gym at all, as his body is ‘still growing’.

One wrote: ‘Unless you are at least fifteen, with a qualified Personal Trainer, this is not a thing to do, as your body is still growing. In fact I would say it is not healthy and could cause injury.’

While another added: ‘He’s going to gym with his father and brothers, you don’t get a body like this from running around and doing some fun activities in your holidays. That’s how a body looks like when you’re training with weights and THAT’S not good for a child’s body that’s still growing.’

Yet, a number of other followers simply praised his impressive feat, chiming in: ‘How r u that strong??? I can barely do a push-up’ and ‘When Cruz Beckham is lifting more than me.’ (sic)

Further fans attempted to calm critics down by noting that Brooklyn was supporting the heavy bar for him, while another claimed it was natural for Cruz to be in the gym, as he comes from a sporty family.

They wrote: ‘Just remember his dad is a professional soccer player and him and his siblings all do sports. And when your an athlete you do training. Besides I’m a year older than him and I also do sport although I don’t do heavy weights I do similar training and it’s fine.’

MailOnline has contacted the family’s representatives for comment.

Speaking about Cruz using the gym at a young age, trainer James Stirling ofLondon Fitness Guy, advised: ‘It’s great to see an iconic sporting figure like David sharing his fitness passion with his children.

‘Given the recent increase in childhood obesity, promoting the importance of exercise under the supervision of a professional can only be positive.

Stirling continued: ‘Since Cruz is only 12, an appropriate programme should be developed to prevent risk of injury and poor technique.

‘Providing the correct weight is used and the baseline strength and mobility of the junior is recognised, Cruz should be in good hands.’

One wrote: ‘That’s nice but isn’t it a little much right now for a person of his age’ while others said: ‘It’s actually bad to work out when you’re a kid your muscles get damaged’ and ‘You are too young for this.’

Last month, David was seen taking his three youngest children – including daughter Harper – to a boxing session in London.

Victoria has also revealed she is stringent about her fitness in the past, and admitted she goes to the gym twice every day.

She told Elle magazine earlier this year: ‘Normally, I wake up, do half my workout – an hour – wake the kids up, give them their breakfast, take them to school, come back, do another hour, quickly shower, and then come into work.’

Depicting the little girl, dressed in a sweet pink kaftan, looking out excitedly to sea, the photography student simply captioned the snap with an affectionate love heart.
