Seven dead and at least 30 injured including five in critical condition after bus carrying tourists ‘including Britons’ crashes in Cuba

Seven people have died and 30 others are injured after a tourist bus said to be carrying several Britons crashed in Cuba.
Cuban state media reports that the bus was carrying 18 Cubans and 22 tourists from Holland, Great Britain, France, Mexico and Canada when it crashed between Baracoa and Guantanamo on Thursday.
Five crash victims are still said to be in critical condition as medical staff in the country battle to save their lives.

According to local radio station Radio Guantanamo, the driver said he lost control of the vehicle in wet and slippery conditions as he was driving along a winding section of road.
The accident occurred at 3pm in the afternoon and patients were through the hospital doors within two hours, transported by ambulances and civilian vehicles.
Cuban journalist Lilibeth Alfonso Martinez reported that the bus driver claimed shortly after the crash that ‘he was driving at low speed, had no contact with any other vehicle, and lost control of the bus due to excessively wet road surface’.
The names and nationalities of those killed haven’t yet been released.
A total of 33 victims were said to have been taken to hospital for treatment after the incident, of whom two were children who are said to be in stable condition.
