A man has taken a woman hostage and has barricaded them both in a hotel bedroom.
Armed police have surrounded the Hotel Imperial in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, as negotiators try to reason with the man.
Witnesses described seeing officers storm the four-storey building just after 7am today, when the alarm was raised about the welfare of two of the guests.
Five police vehicles are parked around the inn this afternoon as the situation enters its seventh hour.

Armed police have currently surrounded the Hotel Imperial in Barrow-in-Furness after being called to the scene just after 7am
Cumbria Police said they believed there was no threat to the wider public.
A spokesman said: ‘Police are currently dealing with an incident in Barrow where a man has barricaded himself inside a hotel room.
‘Officers attended the incident earlier this morning at the Hotel Imperial on Cornwallis Street and remain at the scene.
‘There is no believed threat to the wider public.’
