Customers at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre in Queensland were plunged into darkness for the second time in just two months.

Power was cut at the Broadbeach centre for 15 minutes just after 2pm, with some shops choosing to close, reported The Gold Coast Bulletin.

A spokeswoman for Pacific Fair told Daily Mail Australia the 15-minute power outage was part of a wider issue with Energex, and the shopping centre itself did not close during this time.

She further confirmed that when power returned, ‘all the stores’ were up and trading.

A spokesman for Energex told Daily Mail Australia there was a ‘minor outage on the Gold Coast on Tuesday, due to minor equipment issues’.

‘The power was out for 12 minutes, but the crews there restored the power very quickly,’ he said.

Though the plunge into darkness was brief, it was reminiscent of a bigger blackout in June.

The outage left some shoppers literally stuck inside the centre after automatic doors sealed shut.

Security officers had to manually operate the doors to let people out, and then lift boomgates to allow them to leave.
