A father from California has died after he jumped into an aqueduct to save his nine-year-old son who appeared to be drowning.
The body of the 31-year-old man was found by dive teams at the California Aqueduct in Hesperia according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
The youngster was able to to get out of the water successfully but his father never came back up for air.

Crews ended up having to shut down the flow of the aqueduct to retrieve the man’s body
Crews then shut down water flow to allow rescuers to search for the victim and a short time afterwards recovered his body.
Family members of the man said they heard him calling for help and went to see what was going on, but he was already submerged in the water and moving down the aqueduct with the current, officials said.
The father did not resurface and his body wasn’t recovered until hours later
