Detectives from the child abuse squad believe the man recklessly administered ice to the child by contaminating her dummy.
The man, who can’t be named for legal reasons, was formally refused bail at Albury Local Court on Thursday.
Detective Inspector Owen said ‘the baby was in a critical condition for a number of days’.
‘Following the baby’s release, the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse commenced investigations which yesterday led to the arrest,’ he said on Thursday.
‘Unfortunately we have seen cases like this before. We have seen cases where children have been malnourished, have had drugs admitted to them – either recklessly or intentionally.’
The father is due to face the same court via video link on Monday.
