Dad gifts his daughter a very divisive cake for her 20th birthday: ‘I cannot believe he did that’

A daughter was at a loss for words after receiving an ‘unusual’ birthday cake from her father.

Lily, from Ohio, shared a photo of the cake her father gifted her younger sister, which featured the words ‘I beat teen pregnancy’ in celebration of her 20th birthday.

The chocolate cake was covered in icing with pink cursive text in the middle, with sprinkles adorning the border.

‘I cannot believe he did that,’ Lily wrote in a now-popular post. 

The post received thousands of engagements and hundreds of comments, with many unsure of what to make of the situation.

Most were quick to jump to a more serious conclusion – believing the cake was celebrating an abortion.

‘At first I thought it was a post-abortion cake,’ one woman wrote.

‘I’m glad I wasn’t the only one.’

But some were caught up on the dad’s process of acquiring the cake. 

‘The fact that he bought it from a store, which means he had to ASK someone to write that on the cake,’ one began.

Another bakery worker revealed that he would ‘love’ it if someone asked him to write something similar on a cake.

But a woman was more focused on the positive aspect of the dad’s train of thought. 

‘I feel like the dad did it because he was happy his daughter didn’t get pregnant when her mind is still growing – which ultimately makes this post happy.’

Another claimed she ‘wouldn’t mind’ receiving the cake when she turned twenty – with a second woman upset her parents did not think of it as well. 

‘Getting pregnant as a teenager is complicated, and I’m not saying you can’t successfully raise a child at that age, but it’s extremely tough.’

‘I’m mad my parents didn’t get this cake for me when I turned 20,’ the other said. ‘I was a good child. I deserve this cake!’

‘My daughter was extremely proud and actually shouted it at her birthday,’ a mum said. ‘We even got it on a cake’ 

Celebrating escaping teen pregnancy seemed to be more prevalent than commenters believed – with several claiming they themselves, or their children, echoed a similar sentiment once the clock hit midnight on their 20th birthday.

‘My daughter was extremely proud and actually shouted it at her birthday,’ a mum said. ‘We even got it on a cake.’

‘I said this to everyone as soon as I turned 20.’

A woman shared a hilariously similar story that only barely applied to the situation.

‘I didn’t beat teen pregnancy but I beat being a teen mom,’ she wrote. 

‘My daughter was born only a week after I turned 20.’
