TV host Joy Reid’s column with the Daily Beast has been put on ‘pause’ as they investigate her claims that her blog was hacked- as she alleges she did not author homophobic comments.
The website’s executive editor Noah Shachtman released a statement to employees Wednesday on the company’s decision to do their own internal investigation into the allegations.
‘We’re going to hit pause on Reid’s columns,’ wrote Shachtman in an email revealed by TheWrap.
‘As you’re well aware, support for LGBTQ rights and respect for human dignity are core to Daily Beast. So we’re taking seriously the new allegations that one of our columnists, Joy Reid, previously wrote homophobic blog posts during her stint as a radio host.’

One ‘screenshot’ from her old blog reads: ‘Keeping it real … most straight men feel exactly the same way, and would have the exact same reaction to the idea of stripping naked in a sweaty locker room in close quarters with a gay teammate. Most straight people cringe at the sight of two men kissing’
‘Obviously, this is a difficult situation,’ Shachtman added. ‘We’ve all said and done things in our lives that we wish we hadn’t done. We deserve the room to grow beyond our past. But these allegations are serious enough that they deserve a full examination’
As of now, Reid will remain on air at MSNBC during her two-hour shows airing Saturdays and Sundays.
Reid has been accused of making homophobic and salacious commentary on her old blog, The Reid Report, nearly a decade ago.
Reid’s attorney, John H. Reichman, released a statement to Reid’s employer, MSNBC, that Reid’s team contacted the FBI about various electronic communications of her’s that the say were compromised, and not authentic.
‘We have received confirmation the FBI has opened an investigation into potential criminal activities surrounding several online accounts, including personal email and blog accounts, belonging to Joy-Ann Reid,’ Reichman said in the statement.

Reid allegedly referred to O’Donnell a ‘chubbed-out shrew’ as well as a ‘fat a**’ in this old post on her blog
‘Our own investigation and monitoring of the situation will continue in parallel, and we are cooperating with law enforcement as their investigation proceeds.’
Reid is also under fire after more posts that were allegedly written by her show the host cyber-bullying Rosie O’Donnell.
The posts shared to The Reid Report in 2007 slammed comedian O’Donnell and ruthlessly called her ‘chubbed-out shrew’ and a ‘fat a**.’
The name-calling lines were followed with: ‘How much longer will the freak show that is ‘The View’ continue to darken our television screens? How much more kick-a** funny can Donald Trump be?’
The MSNBC correspondent was speaking of the former talk show host O’Donnell and Trump’s infamous feud which began back in 2006 and continued into his presidency.
Reid claimed she was hacked after the controversial images from her blog were tweeted out this week which saw her appear to express her homophobic views.
The Twitter user who initially posted the images that are claimed to be from her blog said they were more horrendous than what they seemed.
One example allegedly was posted in defense of Tim Hardaway’s accused homophobia.

Reid speaks during the Apple Store Soho Presents: Meet the Creator: John Ridley, ‘American Crime’ at the Apple Store Soho on February 9, 2015 in New York City
The post read: ‘Keeping it real… most straight men feel exactly the same way, and would have the exact same reaction to the idea of stripping naked in a sweaty locker room in close quarters with a gay teammate. Most straight people cringe at the sight of two men kissing.’
The post continued: ‘Most straight people had a hard time being convinced to watch Broke Back Mountain.
‘I admit that I couldn’t go see the movie either, despite my sister’s ringing endorsement, because I didn’t want to watch the two male characters having sex. Does that make me homophobic? Probably.’
The tweet immediately following includes the following language, attributed to Reid: ‘Part of the intrinsic nature of straightness is that homosexual sex is… well… gross,’ adding that the author was sure gay people thought straight sex was gross, too.
Beyond her blog posts, she also has a series of old tweets that have emerged that are similar in tone.
A long scroll through the 49-year-old’s Twitter account turns up a number of tweets which appear to reflect the homophobic comments made on the blog.
Joy Reid’s eight-year-old tweets about ‘rentboys’ and ‘grimey closet-cases’ have resurfaced just days after the MSNBC host denied writing homophobic blog comments appearing under her name
In one tweet, she refers to Southern Baptist minister George Rekers, who was famously caught with a male prostitute, as a ‘rentboy’.
She tweeted: ‘George ‘Rentboy’ Rekers resigns is still not gay.’
She seems to have made a pastime of musing about the sexuality of celebrities. And she saved some of her harshest judgement for Rush Limbaugh over his wedding.
‘Rush Limbaugh’s fourth marriage offers a hopeful message for fat, grimey closet-cases everywhere. Get rich. (Karl Rover, you’re on deck!)’ she said.
In another tweet he added: ‘Report: Elton John, Who Is Gay, To Perform At Rush Limbaugh’s Wedding.
‘Elton to serenade the beard.’
Another tweet took a swipe at Sen Lindsay Graham, after he denied he was gay, writing: ‘Respect the highvoice!’
DailyMail.com has reached out to MSNBC and Reid for comment.
The re-emerged tweets, which are still live on Reid’s account, have raised questions over her denial about the comments on her blog.
‘Joy Ann Reid says the screenshots of homophobic posts on her blog were fabricated. Was she also hacked by whoever made these homophobic and anti-sex worker tweets eight years ago?’ one Twitter user asked.
One user joked: ‘Tomorrow: “The hackers have a time machine.”‘
Reid previously apologized for the controversial posts in a Facebook post dated in December.
