Daley Blind should leave Man Utd for Barcelona: Van Gaal

  • The former United boss feels the Dutchman is not being given enough game time
  • He has played just one minute in the Premier League since the first three games
  • Van Gaal also believes the 27-year-old would be better suited to football in Spain

Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has claimed Daley Blind is being mistreated and should consider leaving the club to join Barcelona.

The versatile Dutchman has become a fringe figure at Old Trafford this season, with manager Jose Mourinho preferring to use other options across his back four and midfield.

Blind, who has notched 137 appearances for the club, has been restricted to just one minute of Premier League action since starting their first three games of the campaign.

He had been a regular in United’s side last term but has lost his place following the arrival of Nemanja Matic and Mourinho’s decision to shift Ashley Young into a left-back role.

The 27-year-old has been limited to mainly cup appearances since falling out of favour with Mourinho and has featured in the Champions League and Carabao Cup recently.

But Van Gaal, who signed Blind for United in the summer of 2014, believes he is deserving of more minutes on the pitch and should look to move amid talks of a potential January switch to the Nou Camp.

The former United and Barcelona boss told The Mirror: ‘Daley Blind is better off going to Barcelona than staying with Man United.

‘He is not even on the bench for United sometimes. Daley can play in more than one position and at Barcelona he would never be sat in the stands.

‘I think Daley would fit in better at Barcelona anyway. His level and his style of play is more suited to Spain than England.

‘He can operate as a central defender who builds up the play. He can be a defensive midfielder or an attacking left-back. Daley can do it all.’
