Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams arrested for unlawful carrying of a weapon and marijuana possession

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams was arrested in Frisco on Sunday night on charges of possession of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

The Star-Telegram reports the Cowboys are aware of the incident, which came a day after he played in the 22-14 preseason loss vs. Seattle.

Per Frisco police, possession of marijuana is a low-level state felony charge, while unlawful carrying of a weapon is simply a misdemeanor charge.

It seems to have not affected Williams’ preparation for the season. He was back with the Cowboys as of Tuesday.

An arrest warrant was issued for Williams in January for a misdemeanor reckless driving charge stemming from his late-December crash in the Dallas suburb, Plano.

Nobody was hurt in the collision, although Williams and the 71-year-old driver of another vehicle were both taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.

The 23-year-old Williams is a pass-rushing specialist who rotates in at defensive end for the Cowboys on passing downs.

The Mobile, Alabama native began his college career at Northeast Mississippi Community College in 2017 and 2018 before transferring to Ole Miss for his final three college seasons.

The linebacker/defensive end recorded 12.5 sacks for the Rebels in 2021 before being drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of that year’s NFL Draft.

Despite being highly-touted coming out of Oxford, MS., background issues were a concern among NFL teams, but not for Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones.

Williams was charged with sexual battery in 2020 but charges were ultimately dropped months later.

‘I’m confident that we know about the young man coming in here, that we’ve covered the ground and we’ve got it all out there,’ Jones said after picking Williams on draft night in 2021.

‘After having seen it all out there, we drafted Sam, and I’m confident we got everything.’
