Damar Hamlin’s rep slams Twitter conspiracy theorists

A representative for Damar Hamlin mocked conspiracy theorists on Twitter by joking that the Buffalo Bills safety’s first public statement since his on-field cardiac arrest on January 2 was secretly performed by a ‘clone.’

Hamlin recently released his first public statement since he was revived in Cincinnati, thanking fans in an edited, six-minute video that was posted online. 

Skeptics have been critical of Hamlin’s reluctance to appear publicly in the weeks since he was revived on the Paycor Stadium turf in Cincinnati, with many suggesting his miraculous recovery may be a hoax. Hamlin appeared to address these concerns in the video, explaining that he needed to time to process his near-death experience before surfacing.

Regardless, one conspiracy theorist questioned the veracity of Hamlin’s video, only to be shut down by the NFL player’s representative, Jordon Rooney. 

‘For a ”full” video,’ one skeptical commenter wrote, ‘it sure is spliced up.’ 

Rooney responded with his own tweet.

‘Possible explanations for why the video was spliced up,’ Rooney began.

‘A) Damar had 100 people to thank and stopped several times throughout to make sure he named everyone.

‘B) It’s fake and/or he’s a clone.’

Rooney ended his post by asking the conspiracy-minded commenter ‘which do you think could be true?’

Another Twitter user asked Rooney why he would entertain conspiracy theorists. 

‘Tbh there are a lot of older people who don’t understand social media that have followed me bc of Damar that if I don’t own the narrative people will believe whatever,’ he wrote. ‘I hear you though lol.’

Hamlin addressed conspiracy theories related to the cardiac arrest following his first public appearance at Buffalo’s recent playoff loss to the Bengals in Orchard Park, New York on January 22. 

Appearing from a luxury suite atop Highmark Stadium, Hamlin was seen on the scoreboard making a ‘heart’ sign with his hands as he received an ovation from Bills fans. 

However, conspiracy theorists on Twitter simply didn’t believe that Hamlin was there. Therefore, Hamlin responded with a cryptic message on Twitter, poking fun at his doubters, many of whom tweeted that he was being played by ‘body double.’

Hamlin posted a picture of himself standing in front of a recently completed mural of his likeness, writing: ‘Clone.’

A source told TMZ that the allegations were false. Bills center Mitch Morse was also quick to shut down those fabrications, nonetheless, as he explained that Hamlin is a naturally reserved person. 

‘Just his presence I think speaks volumes,’ Morse told ESPN. ‘[…] He’s not a big rah-rah guy and I’m sure that at some point he’s a little bit exhausted of people asking how he’s doing or put in a position that he didn’t ask to be put in. 

‘His presence alone, his smile, his positive energy, which he’s always had, always interjects energy and good vibes with the group.’ 

Hamlin was administered CPR on the field and was taken by ambulance to a Cincinnati hospital

Conspiracy theorists have used Hamlin’s reluctance to grant media interviews as a reason for their beliefs. Many seem to believe his heart attack was somehow caused by the COVID-19 vaccine, which they erroneously claim was mandated for NFL players. 

NFL players were not required to be vaccinated, although those who refused faced more stringent COVID-19 protocols. The league has claimed it wanted to mandate the vaccine for players, but was rebuffed by their union. 

Hamlin is still recovering from the horrifying collapse against the Bengals on ‘Monday Night Football’ in Week 17, in which he needed to be resuscitated after nearly dying on the Paycor Stadium turf.  

Rooney, Hamlin’s marketing representative, disclosed that the Bills player ‘still requires oxygen and is having his heart monitored regularly to ensure there are no setbacks or after affects.’

‘Though he is able to visit the team’s facility, Damar is not in position to travel often, and requires additional rest to help his body heal,’ he added. 

It’s unsure whether the safety will ever return to the NFL. .
