Dan Burn sent a touching message to Newcastle’s deaf supporters after celebrating using British Sign Language during the 4-0 victory against Tottenham.

Spurs were dealt a blow in their bid to secure Champions League football for next season after they slumped to defeat at a raucous St James’ Park.

However, the game’s standout moment arguably belonged to Burn, despite him not scoring or assisting. Instead, it was his classy gesture that caught the eye.

After Newcastle netted their third goal of the afternoon, Burn left the huddle and turned to a TNT Sports camera before aiming a celebration at deaf supporters.

His message in sign language read: ‘Love the fans.’

Burn crossed his hands, touched his chest and shook his fists before wheeling away, and the camera then cut to a group of delighted deaf supporters.

A contingent of deaf spectators wore new ‘haptic’ kits for the Premier League fixture, allowing them to immerse themselves in the experience and take in the atmosphere.

The shirts each contained sensors that vibrated when action took place on the pitch.

These cutting-edge kits were created through a partnership between Newcastle’s kit sponsor Sela and the Royal National Institute for the Dead (RNID).

RNID’s director for inclusion, Teri Devine, believes the technology could have a ‘real and lasting impact’ on how those who have hearing loss experience games.

Alexander Isak struck twice for Newcastle to hand them a crucial three points and broke the deadlock after cutting inside of Micky van de Ven and tucking home.

Seconds later, Anthony Gordon wriggled through after Pedro Porro’s miscued clearance and bent an unstoppable effort beyond Guglielmo Vicario.

Isak notched his brace after breaking away from Van de Ven on the halfway line while Fabian Schar headed home from a corner to chalk up Newcastle’s fourth.
