‘How did I end up here? How did Perth and Formula 1 meet?’ Daniel told the publication.

He reflected on his humble beginnings and how his family helped come up with the money to send him to Europe to pursue his dream of driving race cars fresh out of high school – and said he’ll never forget their help in the early days.

He said it kept him motivated in the sport.

‘There were other kids in Europe in the same position as me, but I could see in their head they thought they’d already made it. I was switched on enough to see through that,’ Dan reflected.

He also candidly reflected on how volatile race driving can be because of the ‘highs and lows’.

While he has a passion for driving, Dan admitted: ‘Some days I really don’t like the sport I chose.’
