Dana White admits Michael Chandler vs Justin Gaethje ‘would be a fun fight’ and ‘makes sense’ with UFC boss teasing huge lightweight showdown

  • Michael Chandler recently lost his title shot against Charles Oliveira at UFC 262
  • American believes he can still be in conversation for belt with one more win
  • Justin Gaethje has not fought since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov last year
  • He could lock horns with Chandler in what would be hugely entertaining scrap

Michael Chandler could face Justin Gaethje in his next fight, revealed UFC president Dana White.

Chandler recently fell short in his title shot against Charles Oliveira at UFC 262 and there has been plenty of speculation about who he might take on now.

Justin Gaethje has emerged as a viable option and fans are clamouring for the fight, which on paper looks hugely entertaining.

Gaethje has not fought since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov in Abu Dhabi last year and could put himself in the frame for another opportunity with a win over his American compatriot.

Both men are converted wrestlers who love to stand and look for the KO so understandably there would be real interest in the match-up.

Dana White told TMZ: ‘That’s a good question. I mean, there’s a few opportunities.

‘He can fight Gaethje, we’ll see. We don’t have anything done yet but that makes sense and that’d be a fun fight. Imagine Chandler and Gaethje.

The ‘Highlight’, 32, is a fan favourite and would pose a serious threat to Chandler, who came within seconds of beating Oliveira in the first round earlier this month, before going on to suffer a TKO defeat in the second.

The new champions will almost certainly take on the winner of Dustin Poirier’s trilogy against Conor McGregor next.

After that, Chandler or Gaethje could put themselves right in the frame with a victory.
