A dancer who performed on stage in the Moulin Rouge in Paris was killed in a three-car crash in a Christmas eve tragedy.

Aliesha James, 27, from Nottingham, died after the collision on the northbound carriageway of the M1, just before junction 12 in Bedfordshire, at about 11.15pm. 

The motorway was closed for nine hours as rescue workers scrambled to the scene.

In a statement, Ms James’s family said: ‘Aliesha was a daughter, sister, niece and friend and she is well loved by everyone who met her. 

‘She was wonderful and kind, and she truly touched so many with her sweet nature and loving soul.

‘Her passion was dancing and she trained at Laine Theatre Arts. Her passion took her all over the world, seeing her perform in the Moulin Rouge and in various fashion shows.

‘She was someone everyone wanted to be around, and everyone loved spending time with her. She will be deeply missed by all.

‘Heaven has gained someone who was already an angel.’

A post mortem examination is to be carried out on the body of Aliesha, who had links to Epsom and Surrey, and an inquest will be opened and adjourned.

A spokesman for Bedfordshire Police said they were still investigating the cause of the triple car crash and appealed for any witnesses or drivers with dash cams who were on the M1 near junction 12 just minutes before Christmas day, to contact them.
