Jayne said: ‘You’ve obviously been working on your arms as they were very graceful.’

Teasing at chemistry between the pair Ashley said:’ I loved that, slower paced routines are more exposing, I don’ know what’s going on between the two of you, you were so solid and so confident. Great job, can’t wait to see what’s to come.’

Chris said: ‘Max, good Evans. Strength, power connection and eye contact. You had loads of that.’

Jason said:  ‘Who says romance is dead, your Mexican fire has rubbed off on this boy. I wasn’t sure you would pull this off. You attacked this with such elegance. You’re quite a brute, but you tamed the brute. Relax the hands. There was a moment when you touched her face and it looked like you were handling a football.

Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown will face the skate-off tonight alongside one other unlucky celeb ice dancer.

First up was Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent, 25 with her hunky American partner Matej Silecky.

The star, who said she hopes to be the ‘ice queen of 2018’ admitted to severe nerves before her performance.

They pair danced to Carly Rae Jepsen’s I Really Like You dressed in cute superhero inspired outfits and completing a series of lifts including the superb hair-cutter with rotation,

Jason scored the couple three, Ashley gave three, Jayne gave 3.5 and Chris 3.5 leaving them with a lacklustre 13 out of 40.

The pair suffered an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction when Matej’s shirt button got hooked on Brooker’s fishnet tights.

Brooke said: ‘We went back there and did that spin, I was proud for not being really dizzy

Jayne said: ‘I would like to see more skating, concentrate on the basics and bend the knees, once you got caught, it felt like forever

Ashley said: ‘it’s your job to convince us that nothing has gone wrong, some of the transitions were a bit clunk’

Jason said: ‘ I think it took too long to recover from that, what I do like about you, there is potential. But we lost a lot of content.’

Lemar and pro partner Melody Le Moal took to the rink next with a funky routine to to Soul Man by Sam & Dave.

Jason scored 3.5. Ashley scored 3.5, Jayne scored 4, and Chris scored 4  with a total of 15 out of 40

Lemar: ‘I mastered well, it was quite nerve-wracking, we had some fun.’

Chris ‘you’re the soul man when you’re standing still, that soul hasn’t got to that sole yet, that lift showed good strength and trust in your partner. He’s on the brink, it’s clicking

Ashley ‘you’re not completely comfortable yet. I just hope your skating can catch up. Work on that technique.

Soul man Lemon sole mate, I honestly felt that some of it was really unsightly, I thought you were going to be a lot smoother,

The pros and celebs started with an energetic routine to  Emeli Sande’s Wonder.

Holly Willoughby flashed her ample assets in a plunging black velvet gown with her hair styled in retro waves.

Last week Candice Brown pulled off a spectacular gravity-defying lift during the routine to At Last – but scored a meagre 13 points out of 40, putting her in next week’s dreaded Skate Off.

She had been performing to At Last but sadly fell foul of disappointing critique and will battle it out in next weekend’s Skate Off.

On the first live show, 6 of the 12 new celebrities took to the ice for a live performance, kicking off a 10-week series.

X-Factor alum Jake Quickenden immediately shot to the top of the leader board after an impressive first performance with partner Vanessa Bauer, while baker Candice Brown fell flat after an ‘anxious’ first try, and found herself in the dreaded skate-off, which will take place next weekend.
