Dancing On Ice’s Stephen Mulhern reveals how long he has signed up to co-host the show

Stephen Mulhern has revealed he is only signed up to do the current series of Dancing On Ice – but is keeping his fingers crossed he’ll be asked back.

The TV presenter, 46, has taken over the co-hosting role from Phillip Schofield who left ITV last year after his affair with a younger colleague was made public.

Stephen, who told how thrilled he was to be working with Holly Willoughby, isn’t sure yet if he’ll be back for another series next year.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: ‘I’m definitely doing the whole series. Of course, next year I’d love to do it.

‘Also bizarrely out of all the shows, Strictly, I’m A Celeb, if I was a contestant I’ve always wanted to go on that. Because I’ve always wanted to ice skate.’

He added: ‘There’s not many shows out there where you get to do live TV and also I get to do a show with Holly which I haven’t done in so long.’

Holly and Stephen first worked together on CITV show Holly & Stephen’s Saturday Showdown, originally Ministry Of Mayhem, from January 2004.

After their self-titled show finished in 2006, Stephen and Holly’s appearances together on television became much more few and far-between, but they remained close.

Stephen confirmed he was in talks to join Dancing On Ice as a host in October last year.

He told MailOnline at the time that he thought it would be ‘amazing’ to front the show after he presented ITV2 spin-off series Defrosted for a year back in 2006.

Stephen also stood in for former Dancing On Ice presenter Phillip Schofield, 61, when he fell ill with Covid in 2022.

It shows he is finally being noticed by ITV bosses who have often given him the role of ‘spin-off’ presenter but now as he hosts Catchphrase and the Deal or Deal No reboot, Stephen is quickly becoming a serious primetime contender.

He said in October before his DOI role was officially confirmed: ‘I used to do the spin-off show Defrosted and when I stood in for Phil when he wasn’t too well, he had Covid, I really enjoyed it and it was so lovely being back with Holly.

‘We had a great time together plus lots of the team were the same from when I did the ITV2 show.

‘We are talking about it, but I promise you now that nothing is confirmed but if it happens, it will be absolutely amazing… if it doesn’t, look, it doesn’t. I promise you I would tell you if we had it confirmed at this point.

‘The lineup is the best it has been in a few years… I am keeping across the lineup, just in case… It is a huge staple, and it has been around.’
