Dani Alves’ ex-wife Joana Sanz inadvertently shared a letter the disgraced Brazilian footballer wrote to her from prison, before quickly deleting the social media post.

The 40-year-old star, who was jailed on Thursday for four-and-a-half years after being found guilty of assaulting a woman in a nightclub toilet in Barcelona in December 2022, appeared to write a letter to his former partner asking for forgiveness while awaiting trial.

In the letter accidentally unveiled on social media, Alves pleaded for Sanz’s forgiveness and expressed gratitude for her resilience, as reported by Vogue. Alves also professed his enduring love for Sanz and praised her strength during the scandal.

Alves expressed his longing to walk every path with her, acknowledging her presence in every aspect of his life.

In the letter, which was later taken down from Instagram, Alves said: ‘What I dreamed of and what I continue to dream of. I want to take all the paths with you. I didn’t have the wrong woman, yes, it was you.

‘There is not a single day, not a single moment, not a single plan in which you are not there. I pray every day for the day to come that I can see you wake up.’

‘Nostalgia is not about not being able to do it now. Wherever, whatever, whatever, but with you always by my side. I feel strange feelings. I love you.’

Sanz initially shared the love note on her Instagram page in September, but swiftly deleted it, attributing the public post to a mistake intended solely for her close friends.

Following his sentencing to prison and the order to compensate the victim with £130,000 (150,000 euros), reports in Spain claim Alves could potentially be released as early as July 20, having served a third of his term.

It has been speculated that the former Barcelona star may be granted release to engage in work or other activities during the day, returning to confinement at night, in accordance with Spanish law.

There is also the possibility of him exchanging part of his sentence for expulsion to Brazil, as explained by lawyer Agustín Martínez Becerra.

However, such requests can only be made after a second instance court decision, which is dependent on Alves pursuing a successful appeal.

The disgraced star had two spells at Barcelona and also played for Sevilla, Juventus, PSG and Sao Paulo during a trophy-laden career.

He notably made history as the oldest player to represent Brazil at the World Cup in December 2022, held in Qatar.
