Daniel Day-Lewis bundles up in hipster beanie and smart jacket as he steps out in New York City

Daniel Day-Lewis may have been one of the biggest names in Hollywood, but on Wednesday he blended in perfectly with cool New Yorkers.  

Looking stylish as usual, Daniel, 66, donned a short black beanie along with a black jacket teamed with a polo shirt and smart tan slacks. 

The reclusive, Oscar-winner was spotted trekking through the Big Apple in his rugged boots, shopping for books at a store before grabbing lunch with a pal.

The clean-shaven star appeared in good spirits as he met up with his pal, eventually sharing an embrace with him.

Daniel  retired from acting six years ago, however in October made a rare appearance on the red carpet for the premiere of his wife Rebecca Miller’s new film She Came To Me.

The picture-perfect parents were also joined by their son Ronan, 25, who rocked a casual white tee and jeans for the big debut.

The My Left Foot star held hands with his gorgeous partner, who is the daughter of famous playwright Arthur Miller on the red carpet at the premiere . 

The family outing was in celebration of the first screening of Rebecca’s romantic comedy, which stars Anne Hathaway, Peter Dinklage and Marisa Tomei.

The method actor has not been on a red carpet since announcing his retirement in June 2017, following the release of Phantom Thread. 

‘All my life, I’ve mouthed off about how I should stop acting, and I don’t know why it was different this time, but the impulse to quit took root in me, and that became a compulsion,’ he told W magazine five months after the news.

‘It was something I had to do.’

With the announcement, Hollywood would lose the only actor to have won three Best Actor Oscars.

In 1989, he went home with his first for My Left Foot, then followed the win up with a statue for 2007’s There Will Be Blood.

In 2012, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln brought Daniel his third Academy Award. 

In his retirement, Daniel splits his time between New York City and Annamoe, Ireland with his wife, Ronan, and their other son Cashel, 21.

Daniel also shares son, Gabriel, 28, with his ex girlfriend, French star Isabelle Adjani.
