Daniel Ricciardo refused to rule out returning to Red Bull after his $78million contract with Renault ends.

Ricciardo’s contract finishes at the end of the year but with the coronavirus impacting the F1 season, negotiations with his current team have stalled.

During an interview on Sky Sports F1 Vodcast, the 30-year-old said returning to his old team is an option he is considering.

‘Would I ever rule out going to Red Bull? No… I think something I’ve learned growing up in life is never say never,’ he said.

‘It is hard having chats right now, because we are at a stalemate – nothing’s really happened. Normally chats start to come off the back of races, results and momentum,’ he said.

‘There’s honestly not a lot to talk about for now, it’s more about the current situation and how we’re going to deal with it. It’s all pretty slow and steady to be honest at this stage.’

Ricciardo has returned to his farm near Perth while the season has been suspended.

He said he has been keeping active and fit but can not wait for the season to resume, as long as it happens under the right circumstances.

The F1 plans to start the season in Australia in early July though these plans may change if coronavirus restrictions are not lifted.

After the season starts in Australia, it will be followed by two races in the village of Silverstone in Northamptonshire, England.

All races in Europe could be held behind closed doors if social distancing rules continue to be enforced.
