Daphne Oz details her strict post-pregnancy diet on Instagram

Mother-of-three Daphne Oz is giving fans a glimpse into her post-baby diet after a month of eating mostly lean meats, vegetables, and beans while shunning grains, refined sugar, and dairy.

The 32-year-old gave birth to her youngest daughter, Domenica Celine, in December, and three months later she announced that she was ready to go back to ‘slow carb living’ to reach a ‘healthy weight’ and a a ‘good head space.’

Daphne urged her 309,000 Instagram followers to join her on her healthy eating journey, and on Monday checked in with her fans while sharing some of her daily meals.

‘Are you sticking with five days a week of no grains, no refined sugar, and no dairy (except yogurt)? How are you feeling?’ she wrote. ‘I’ve been all over the map the last week with a ton of travel, but got back to it today. Let me know how you’re doing!’

The cookbook author’s weekly diet consists of animal protein, vegetables, legumes, healthy fats, and nuts, and she has been regularly sharing updates on her progress. 

Daphne said she woke up and had warm lemon water first thing on Monday morning. Although she usually starts the day with a smoothie, she ended up having a black Americano and two hard-boiled eggs for breakfast.

‘I was in a crazy rush, so this is my last resort breakfast of choice!’ she explained, telling one commenter: ‘Eggs are protein + fat + perfects start to rev up your metabolism and energy on the go.’

For lunch, she had homemade chicken meatballs over baby greens with avocado and citrus vinaigrette. 

She are seaweed nori crisps topped with a spice cashew spread for her snack and ended the day with leftover chicken meatballs, a roasted sweet potato, and a small handful of walnuts for dinner.

Five weeks ago, the mom laid out the ‘very few, very simple rules’ of the eating plan on Instagram Stories, explaining that there would be no grains, no sugar aside from one to two optional servings of fruit, and no dairy with the exception of one serving of whole fat yogurt. 

As for drinks, she suggested consuming half of your body weight in ounces of water and limit yourself to one glass. 

She also posted a week of meal plans, including everything from a kale Caesar salad with vegan dressing and scrambled eggs with roasted salmon.

Last month, a week into her diet, Daphne shared a photo of herself wearing a high-waisted bikini while cuddling her baby girl. 

She explained that she was so proud of herself for sticking with the eating plan during the week, but she admitted that she indulged in pasta, dairy, and cocktails over the weekend. 

Daphne noted that the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day and a family get-together made her realize that her strict diet would only work long term if she took one or two days off during the week.

‘I took mine over the weekend which meant cream in my coffee, Aperol spritzes, farmer’s market conch fritters and scones, homemade Irish soda bread, ice cream sandwiches, and spaghetti cacio e pepe (not all at the same meal) and it was DIVINE,’ she wrote. 

‘But it feels good to get back on track today.’

Right before she started the diet, Daphne posted a candid photo of herself modeling a swimsuit three months after giving birth to Domenica.

‘FRESH START // I’m working on my next cookbook (!!!) and it’s got me thinking about the way I want to eat long term, the way I want to celebrate with food and still celebrate my body at the same time,’ she captioned the image. 

‘Right now, I’m 3 months postpartum and ready to go back to slow carb living as a way to reach a healthy weight and a good head space,’ she added.

Before she became pregnant with her third child, Daphne had lost weight while adopting the slow-carb diet that helped curb her sugar cravings. 

‘It’s crazy how a few strict but simple rules can help break bad eating habits so quickly,’ she explained.

The candid post received thousands of comments from fans who praised Daphne for sharing an honest photo of her body.

In the picture, Daphne is angled to show off her side profile while modeling a white navy blue polka dot two-piece featuring a bandeau top and high-waisted bottoms. 

‘Thank you for sharing a real pic of your real body!! No photoshop! This encourages all women and girls to love the skin they are in!!’ a woman named Alynneb wrote.

Someone else added: ‘I love to see real pictures of real bodies! No unobtainable airbrushed photoshopped crap!’

Daphne, who also has a four-year-old daughter, Philomena, and a two-year-old son, Jovan, with her husband, John Jovanovic, has been candid about her weight loss journey since giving birth to Domenica.

In January, nearly two months after giving birth, she shared photo of her postpartum body in a bra and underwear.

‘Seven weeks postpartum, still looking three months pregnant,’ she wrote. ‘There is no bounce-back, it’s all onwards and upwards. Every day has moments of total splendor and also a decent number of WTFs.’

As a mother of three, Daphne said she wanted new moms to hear the truth because ‘we see so much of how glossy motherhood can be’ and not enough about how complicated ‘3D life’ really is.

‘You’re experience will be just right for you,’ she added. ‘Prepare to be amazed by some things and horrified by others. Motherhood is as complex and wonderful as the woman.’

The Happy Cook author also received plenty of support from other celebrity moms, including ‘likes’ from Jenna Bush Hager and Jessie James Decker.

Jessica Alba, who gave birth to her son Hayes on New Year’s Eve, commented: ‘I feel ya girl,’ while Tamera Mowry responded: ‘I still get questions if I’m pregnant or not. My daughter is 2 and half.’
