Daredevil Jared Leto vows to climb famous Sydney monument without a harness- as his band Thirty Seconds kick off Australian tour

Jared Leto is in Australia this week to kick off the Australian leg of the Thirty Seconds to Mars world tour.

And the actor and frontman stopped into KIIS FM’s The Night Show with Mitch Churi, where he expressed his interest in engaging in some daredevil behaviour while visiting Down Under.

When asked if there are any landmarks he’d like to scale, Leto, who is a fan of extreme sports and climbed The Empire State Building in 2023, said he’d have a go at the Sydney Harbour bridge – if he could do it without a rope.

‘I would do the Harbour Bridge but honestly, it’s a little too safe for me,’ he told the radio host.

‘I’d want to do something a little bit further on the edge’ the performer continued.

‘If they’d let me climb it without a rope, I would do it. Without being harnessed in, because I’m sure everyone’s harnessed in right?’

Jared then called for fans to give him some ideas for what he could scale while in the country.

‘I’m down to do something [in Australia]. I’d love to come and climb something out there. If anybody has any ideas, DM (direct message) me’ he said.

Meanwhile, Jared’s band is about to kick off their tour.

The Closer to the Edge hitmakers have been embarking on a world tour in 2024, which includes a number of Australian dates.

The extensive tour includes a run of Australian dates, with the band performing at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on 12th September 2024, ahead of further shows at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, and finally Brisbane’s Riverstage.

From there, they’ll head over to New Zealand before hitting other territories.

In flamboyant rock star fashion, frontman Jared Leto announced the tour by climbing the Empire State Building in New York City.

‘The building is a testament of all the things that can be done in the world if we put our minds to it, which is largely the inspiration behind our most recent album, It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day,’ Leto said in a statement.

The world tour will also see the band travel across Latin America, Europe, and North America – their first headline tour in over 5 years.

The band’s last album dropped on September 15, 2023, peaking at No. 76 on the Billboard 200.

Formed in 1998, the group currently consists of Jared on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, his brother Shannon Leto on drums, and Tomo Miličević on lead guitar and keyboards.

When he’s not rocking out and doing rock star stunts like bungee jumping on stage and climbing the Empire State Building, Jared is focused on his acting.

He most recently starred in the Disney film Haunted Mansion, playing the character Hatbox ghost.

Prior to that, Jared starred in Morbius as Michael Morbius, as well as Paolo Gucci in House of Gucci.

In 2014, Jared took over Hollywood with an Oscar win for his incredible transformation into a transgender AIDS patient named Rayon in Dallas Buyer’s Club.
