Littler will likely face Nathan Aspinall, who is ranked No 4 in the world, for a place in the semi-finals. But first, Aspinall must get through Lourence Ilagan in the last-16.

The Warrington native captured the imagination of the nation as he made it all the way to the final on debut at Alexandra Palace, having begun the tournament unranked. Littler produced startling performances before going down 7-4 to Luke Humphries earlier this month.

‘Luke Littler is him,’ claimed another fan on social media following the commanding victory.

While another picked out the new addition to the rising star’s wardrobe following his winnings from the world championship, writing: ‘Loving Luke Littler flexing his new Rolex here.’
