Darwin couple’s adoption video goes viral on Facebook

A couple have announced they were adopting after years of struggling to fall pregnant with an adorable video that has since been viewed thousands of times.

Shane and Catherine Crowley, of Darwin, announced the happy news to their family and friends with a clip posted on Facebook.

The sweet video shows the couple repeatedly trying to make a ‘bun in the oven’, before getting a special delivery after many years of heartbreak.

It was in January 2013 when Shane and Catherine first decided they wanted to create a bun in the oven and ‘started practicing’, they cheekily said in the clip.

Shane and Catherine Crowley, of Darwin, announced that they were adopting after years of struggling to fall pregnant with an adorable video that has gone viral

The video shows the couple putting white flour and a cup of water in their oven excitedly, crossing their fingers for luck.

But they open the oven, and nothing is there anymore.

‘Unfortunately they could not create the bun they so dearly wanted. So they tried again…and again…and again,’ the video states.

Shane and Cat’s hairstyle and clothes change as we see them loyally standing by the oven, and still the pan is always empty.

We then see the couple put a ball of dough in the oven, to represent the fact that they had begun trying to get pregnant with IVF.

But even after 10 attempts over four years, the oven remained empty and cold and their faces dropped further and further to the ground.

‘So they made a call to South Korea. They heard they had some beautiful steamed buns who needed love and affection,’ the video reveals.

We then see a package arrive on the couple’s doorstep, with a big sticker reading ‘Fragile, handle with care’.

Catherine excitedly picks it up and they put it in the oven, taking out a beautiful steamed bun.

The couple then announced that their first son, Darren Trevor Kang Crowley, was due to arrive in mid-2018.

But the video has a happy ending, as Shane and Catherine reveal they adopted a boy from South Korea, who they affectionately called their 'steamed bun'

Shane revealed that Darren is being looked after by his foster mum at the moment, and that he and Catherine can’t wait to welcome home their little boy.

‘I went to the shops the other day and said “I’m looking for something for my son”. As soon as I said “my son” and walked out of that shop, I’m thinking, “Wow, I’ve got a son. I’ve got a child of my own,”‘ Catherine told 9Honey.

Shane and Catherine thought the video would be a fun way to share their story with their loved ones, while also helping to reduce the stigma around infertility.

They have been shocked with the outpouring of support they have received since releasing the clip, which has been viewed more than 6,000 times.

‘It’s nice to see it’s not such a taboo subject,’ Catherine said. ‘Don’t give up.’
