Dating app sending matches on blind date to the Caribbean

Blind dates can be hit or miss.

The one saving grace when they’re really, really bad? You can leave anytime you want, even if your date isn’t buying your story about your roommate forgetting their keys or your cat getting stuck up a tree.

But one dating app isn’t giving romantic hopefuls that essential escape route option anymore, thanks to its novel new dating concept that will see two single strangers spend several days together on the holiday of a lifetime in the Caribbean.

Blind date: Dating app The League has teamed up with Cheap Caribbean to offer two new couples a blind date vacation to the Caribbean this Valentine’s Day

Teaming up with tour operator Cheap Caribbean, dating app The League is aiming to shake things up with those looking for love this Valentine’s Day with it’s ‘Paired Up for Paradise’ event.

Taking place in New York and San Francisco on February 14, the events have been designed to bring dating hopefuls together under one roof before a couple is selected to jet off on vacation together.

Speaking about how they came up with the concept, Michael Lowery, Chief Marketing Officer at CheapCaribbean told AOL that the company are hoping to offer a couple a ‘once-in-a-lifetime blind date for Valentine’s Day’.

He added: ‘Without distractions from the daily grind, the beach makes for an ideal setting to relax and find romance.’

Last year, the travel agent introduced a Sex on the Beach package, so couples could ‘spice things up’, so no doubt, the company has plenty of romantic action planned for the winning couples.

However, he didn’t mention specifics about whether or not the couple will have to spend every day together, or what might happen if they really can’t stand each other and want to get as far away as possible from each other.

And if singletons are worried about being matched with their worst nightmare, they shouldn’t be.

The League prides itself on allowing users to customize their preferences so they only see people that share the same interests as them or possess specific physical attributes, so it’s unlikely the winners will be matched with their worst nightmares.

And when it launched, the app was marketed as being ideal for ‘super picky’ users; membership is not guaranteed and every person has to go through a detailed screening process before being allowed to sign up.

However, The League isn’t the only dating app to offer the same kind of service.

Dating website MissTravel offers jet-setters and wanderlusters the opportunity to search for love or companionship while away on vacation, and Senior Femail Reporter Carly Stern, trialed the service in May 2017.

Miss Travel users find matches on the site and plan trips together, flying out to a shared destination in another part of the country or world – Carly jetted off to Punta Mita, Mexico for her first date with a stranger.

‘In the end, there was no romance — not even a kiss — but it was still a fun way to spend a weekend,’ she said of the experience.

‘Meeting up with a stranger on vacation seems like it could actually be a great idea, on two conditions: One, if you go somewhere where there is plenty to do to keep you busy. And two, if you’re prepared to go solo should this stranger be a weirdo.

And although romance didn’t blossom, Carly managed to have a good time.

‘I can’t vouch for the weirdo-to-normal-person ratio on MissTravel, but I did manage to find one totally normal, nice guy on the site — which seems like a pretty good sign to me.’

Carly was matched with a guest of her choosing, picked from a roster of finalists on the MissTravel site.

They briefly texted in the days leading up to their trip but met for the first time at an NYC airport for their Thursday six a.m. flight.

Carly and her date hung out all weekend by the pool and beach and ate all their meals together but slept in separate rooms.

Her date revealed that he used the website as most of his friends were married with children, leaving him few travel partners.

Although romance didn’t blossom, Carly said overall it was a positive experience: ‘In the end, there was no romance — not even a kiss — but it was still a fun way to spend a weekend.’
