Davante Adams breaks silence after blockbuster New York Jets trade

Davante Adams has spoken for the first time since he was reportedly traded to the Jets.

The star wide receiver picked up the phone when former teammate James Jones FaceTimed him on FS1’s The Facility, and said: ‘I’m ready. I’m ready. Couldn’t be more [excited].

He also told the show that his flight to New Jersey left at midnight last night – suggesting that the trade may have even been done before it was reported today.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Raiders are reportedly will acquire conditional third-round draft pick for Adams- which could become a second-rounder based on his performance.

The Jets are also taking on the rest of Adams’ $11.59million salary for this season, according to multiple reports.

The trade follows intense speculation about Adams’ future, with the Jets and his good friend and former teammate Rodgers always considered a possible landing spot in a potential trade.

The 31-year-old previously spent eight seasons with Rodgers in Green Bay, where they formed a close relationship on and off the field.

Adams will need to hit the ground running in New York, as the Jets are 2-4 after a close loss to Buffalo on Monday night. 

Asked about the trade by reporters on Tuesday, owner Woody Johnson proclaimed that ‘thinking is overrated.’

‘You have to look forward,’ he said. ‘We have to look forward to the games we’re going to play each and every week and try to win all of them … you just have to go with your instinct and what’s the best thing to build a team.’

Adams has sat out the last three weeks for the Raiders with a hamstring injury

He continued by saying that Adams will ‘open everything up,’ and that ‘status quo is killer.’ 

As Johnson mentioned, the reported trade for Adams has come during a period of mass change for the Jets.

Head coach Robert Saleh was fired last week and replaced on an interim basis by defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, while offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was stripped of his play-calling duties in place of Todd Downing.

Holdout pass rusher Haason Reddick – who recently changed agents – has also been given a short window to seek a trade, according to The Athletic.
