Dave Hughes gives out his phone number on national TV

After accidentally posting his wife Holly’s mobile phone number on Twitter earlier this year, Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes got a taste of his own medicine.

Because the 47-year-old revealed his own personal number on Tuesday’s episode of  Hughesy, We Have A Problem – apparently in order to prove he is ‘open person’.

After sharing his digits with the studio audience – and the thousands of viewers watching at home – Dave announced: ‘This is not a joke, I want everyone to ring me!’

However, the following day, Dave confessed to News.com.au that it may not have been such a great idea.

He said on Wednesday: ‘The phone just kept ringing all night. I’ve got close to 4000 text messages.’

Dave admitted he was doing his best respond to the texts and personally answered over 100 calls.

He added: ‘The funniest ones were FaceTime calls that I would answer and they’d just freak out and throw the phone down’.

The time zone difference also meant that Dave got a second wave of phone calls arrive after midnight from fans in Western Australia.

The funnyman confessed to waking up in shock, wondering ‘”Fuck, what’s wrong?”‘

Despite the generally positive tone of the messages, there was some inevitable ‘”I hate you” messages’, Dave added.

Besides hosting Channel Ten’s new panel show, Dave also presents 2DayFM’s Hughesy and Kate drive time show with Kate Langbroek.
