But Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes certainly wasn’t laughing when he discovered the lavish home isn’t worth that much.
Speaking to Stellar magazine on Sunday, the 47-year-old admitted he was ‘annoyed’ after the bank valued the five-bedroom East Melbourne property at ‘much less’ than the hefty $3million he paid.
‘Annoyed’: Dave Hughes has admitted he was ‘annoyed’ after he found out that the $3million home he bought from Elyse Knowles and Josh Barker on The Block is not worth that much. He told Stellar on Sunday that the bank valued the five-bedroom East Melbourne property at ‘much less’
‘I went to get a bank loan the other day and they haven’t valued it the same as I paid for it, which is fine, but annoying because there were five bidders,’ he said.
Although not disclosing how vast the difference in price was, he said it was enough to leave him frustrated.
‘Enough less that it made me annoyed. For fu*k’s sake… I just think it’s good value and in a few years time people are going to be going, ‘Well, fu*k, didn’t he do well with it!’ I am playing the long game, all right? That is what I say to my wife anyway,’ he continued.

‘The Block house has been rented. We’ve found someone to move it. We’re very happy about that,’ he told Triple M’s Hot Breakfast on Thursday.
‘I emailed my real estate agent last night about 11pm saying, ‘When’s this month’s rent coming into my bank? I haven’t seen it for a while,’ he joked before confessing: ‘I had trouble renting it. Took a while.’
Hefty price: Although failing to divulge how much the weekly rent was, experts have estimated it could be going for $2,500 to $3,000 a week
Highest bidder: During the television show auction, Hughesy scooped up the house with a $2.62 million reserve for an extra $447,000

And it seems as though his wife Holly was quick to see the property was no steal.
‘It’s not a bargain,’ she said on his KIIS FM drive show last year, adding that their eight-year-old son Rafferty was also hassled at school about the purchase, and felt as though his dad was ‘showing off’.
