David Beckham and son Brooklyn show off haircuts in Miami

It was a big day for him as he launched his long-awaited Major League Soccer team franchise on Monday.

And David Beckham, 42, ensured he was looking his best as he headed to the press conference in sun-soaked Miami – continuing to show off his newly trimmed locks which he debuted the day before.

Joining the former footballer was his eldest son Brooklyn Beckham, 18, who sourced inspiration from his dad and also bid farewell to his longer tresses in return for a neater haircut.

David, who was sporting longer locks and a trendy man bun in recent weeks, looked handsome with his new hairdo, which saw the sides of his head shaved.

Completing the slick and well put together look, the athlete showed off his frame in a slick black suit, along with a crisp white shirt and grey tie.

The handsome star was joined by Brooklyn – who is currently studying photography in New York –  who was also spotted with a new do to take after his dad.

The rising teen star appeared to have braved the shave as he joined his famous parent on the big day.

Brooklyn ensured to put on quite the trendsetting display, cladding his physique in a brown bomber jacket, light blue shirt and black trousers.

The father and son duo looked very much in good spirits as they headed to the event.

It was announced earlier this week that the former England captain is to host a press conference alongside MLS commissioner Don Garber – with a press release revealing ‘an important announcement on the future of soccer in Miami will be made’.

And on Monday he went on to launch his long-awaited Major League Soccer franchise after his side was accepted into the league by commissioner Don Garber.

Beckham said at the press conference: ‘This is something that has been a dream for many, many years. To bring an MLS club to Miami has been a hell of a journey. I moved from Real Madrid to move to a league that wasn’t fully established yet.

‘I was in from day one. I promise you the team we bring into this league will be one of the best teams… the best team. When I was awarded the team there was only one city and that’s here.’

Garber added: ‘These are the days that really warm our hearts and make us so proud. Great things come to those who wait. A day that will go down as one of the historic days in our league.

‘David will remember when we first met and he said he wanted to grow the sport but one day he wanted to become an owner. He worked for years to find the right stad.

Miami has long been identified as a potential MLS expansion area but the Beckham-backed venture to take a team there has been beset by years of difficulties over the location of a possible new stadium.

Beckham, who won 115 England caps, had an option to purchase an MLS expansion franchise included in his contract when he joined Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007.

MailOnline has contacted his representatives for comment.

David shares son Brooklyn, 18, Romeo, fifteen, twelve-year-old Cruz and daughter Harper, six, with former Spice Girl wife Victoria.
