David Corenswet has been saying for YEARS that Superman would be his dream role: ‘My pie-in-the-sky ambition’
David Corenswet has wanted to play Superman for years.
‘My pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman,’ the 29-year-old told Entertainment Weekly back in 2019.
He praised Henry Cavill’s, ‘dark and gritty take,’ on the iconic superhero, adding that he would want the next iteration to be more, ‘bright and optimistic.’
The Look Both Ways star has been cast in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, Superman: Legacy.
Rachel Brosnahan, of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel fame, will co-star alongside David as Superman’s love interest, Lois Lane.

Although the first Superman film in a post Henry Cavill-Clark Kent era isn’t set to premiere until July 11, 2025. DCU fans are already scrubbing the internet for past interviews of David expressing his love for the iconic hero.
The Politician actor has also drawn comparisons to Henry in the looks department for years, with many calling David a dead-ringer for the former Superman star.
Superman: Legacy will be David’s first major film role as a leading man.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Philadelphia-born DC star had a screen test for the coveted Clark Kent role just a few weeks ago.
Although he wasn’t paired up with Rachel during the screen test, the Emmy Award winning actress would ultimately land the part of the Daily Planet’s star reporter.
Rachel also made it clear in past interviews that Lois was a dream role of hers too, according to Buzzfeed.
The Prime Video star praised Lois Lane’s strength during a past appearance on The View, describing the character as an, ‘incredibly talented journalist who is far from a damsel in distress.’
‘I would jump at the chance [to play Lois] if it arose,’ Rachel added.

In addition to serving as a DC executive, James will also be directing Superman: Legacy.
The official plot synopsis for the film teases Superman’s journey, ‘to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.’
‘He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned,’ the synopsis reads.
The former MCU director praised his two Superman: Legacy leads in a tweet confirming the casting news for the film.
‘They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people,’ James wrote.
