David ‘Kochie’ Koch reveals what life after Sunrise is really like and whether Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington is living up to his legacy… as he cringes over fans drooling over his hot son Alexander

David ‘Kochie’ Koch has dished on life after Sunrise following his exit from the show after 21 years, revealing he still enjoys ‘waking up’ with the program every morning.

Chatting with Daily Mail Australia during the Virgin Voyages event on Tuesday evening, the TV veteran also gushed over how well Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington has replaced him.

But the former breakfast anchor, 67, revealed the best part about focusing on his family business interest in Pinstripe Media is working regular ‘business hours’.

‘It’s great. I just work business hours now and get to do lots of different things,’ he told DMA.

‘When I was working at Sunrise, I’d finish there at mid-morning and then go to Barangaroo and do the family business. So I just work in the family business now.’

When asked how he thinks Shirvo has taken to the role of co-anchor alongside his former colleague Natalie Barr, Kochie had only praise for the Olympic athlete.

‘He’s doing really well. We knew Matt would take over about two or three years ago and he would fill in for me,’ he said.

‘Matt’s just a great guy. Got a great family. I love his enthusiasm. He sort of brings an elite athlete sort of mentality. He always wants to learn.’

The Channel Seven veteran went on to say he still ‘regularly’ has lunch and catches up with Shirvo and Nat.

Just moments before, Kochie also revealed how he really feels about all the attention his son Alexander ‘AJ’ Koch has been getting recently for his handsome looks.

The finance guru joked that his only son, 35, has been ‘getting grief’ from his three sisters Samantha, 42, Bree, 38, and Georgina, 32, over all the female attention.

‘Lot’s of grief and his friends do too, and he’s never lived it down, so thank you for that,’ Kochie laughed.

He added that Alexander’s ‘gorgeous wife’ Carrie, who he married in an intimate ceremony in 2018, ‘just rolls her eyes’ when he ‘gets a big head’ over it.

The spitting image of his famous father, AJ is just as business savvy too, though he prefers to work behind the scenes rather than in front of the camera.

He has worked as the general manager for the Kochie-founded Pinstripe Media, a popular financial publisher and content agency, for 12 years.
