David Neres played a starring role as a super sub as Napoli came from behind to beat Parma 2-1 on Saturday but his dream evening soon became a nightmare.

The winger – making only his second appearance for Napoli following a transfer from Benfica 10 days earlier – assisted the winning goal for Frank Anguissa in the fifth minute of added time, after Romelu Lukaku had equalised just moments earlier.

Neres and his wife Kira Winona departed the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in a large black car.

However, they did not get far before armed thugs allegedly attacked the vehicle, smashing one of the windows.

Winona later posted on Instagram: ‘David would like to say sorry to the fans who were waiting outside for him. While trying to leave the stadium after the game, two men on a motorcycle smashed the car and robbed him at gunpoint.’

Neres reposted the message to his 2.4million followers.

According to L’Unione Sarda, two robbers fled the scene on a motorbike having stolen a watch from Neres before the incident was reported to police in Naples.

A video taken after the alleged attack showed Neres and his partner being escorted out of damaged car and into the safety of a hotel as fans shouted and cheered in the background.

Neres joined Napoli in a deal worth around £23.5m. He made his debut in last weekend’s 3-0 win over Bologna, providing an assist during a five-minute cameo.

He then got almost half an hour of game time on Saturday as Napoli fought back from 1-0 down to beat 10-man Parma.
