David Spade hits stand up stage, three days after his sister-in-law Kate’s suicide

David Spade returned to the comedy stage Friday, just three days after the death of his sister-in-law. 

‘Thank you for coming, it was a rough week, but I didn’t want to cancel and I appreciate you all coming out here,’ he told the crowd at the Brea Improv according to E!Online.

The comedian told the southern California crowd that, ‘if my jokes don’t work then I get sort of a free pass.’

Spade’s sister-in-law,  designer Kate Spade was found dead in her Manhattan apartment on Tuesday, after committing suicide.  

He shared remembrances of her on his social media accounts,  sharing on Twitter,  ‘I dont think everyone knew how [expletive] funny she was… Its a rough world out there people. Try to hang on.’

And a similar message on Instagram with a family photo, ‘Fuzzy picture but i love it. Kate and I during Christmas family photos. We had so much fun that day. She was so sharp and quick on her feet. She could make me laugh so hard. I still cant believe it. Its a rough world out there people, try to hang on.’

On Friday night, he seemed to be buoyed by the crowd.  

People in the audience said that the comedian’s mood seemed to get better and better as the show went on, and the crowd was reportedly laughing and clapping through the whole show.

‘Thank you for coming out, I appreciate it,’ he told the crowd as he wrapped up. 

He’s scheduled to do two shows on Saturday night.
