He continued: ‘Believe in yourself and your abilities, and never be afraid to dream big like I did.

‘Whether you dream of becoming a professional athlete, an artist, a teacher, or anything else, know that with hard work, dedication, and perseverance, you can turn your dreams into reality.

‘Don’t let anyone discourage you or tell you that your dreams are too big or too ambitious.’

David went on to advise his followers to surround themselves ‘with people who support and encourage you’.

‘Remember that setbacks and challenges are a natural part of the journey toward making your dreams come true,’ he added.

The athlete finished off his sweet post by encouraging others to ‘stay focused, stay positive, and never stop believing in yourself and your dreams’.

David shared three images in his emotional post, with the first being of himself as a child wearing his very first red, green and white cricket ensemble.

The next two photos showed David at his current age as he slipped the now aged baggy green back onto his head.

A baggy green is a cricket cap which has been worn by Australian Test cricketers since the early 1900s.

It has long been a symbol of national pride for the country and has been described as the ‘most famous cricket cap in the world’.
