Davis’ two homers lead A’s to another comeback at Texas

Khris Davis blasted a two-out, two-strike, two-run home run in the ninth inning Wednesday night, rallying the scorching Oakland Athletics to another improbable victory, 6-5 over the Texas Rangers in Arlington, Texas.

Oakland won its fifth consecutive game while handing Texas a third loss in a row.

One night after the A’s rallied from a 10-2 deficit to beat the Rangers 13-10 in 10 innings, Oakland found itself behind 5-1 after six innings this time before storming back behind two Davis homers, including a three-run, deficit-closing shot in the seventh.

With the A’s down 5-4 in the ninth, Nick Martini drew a one-out walk from Rangers right-hander Jose Leclerc (2-3), who was seeking his first save of the season.

After Jed Lowrie struck out, Leclerc got two strikes on Davis before delivering a pitch that the slugger belted well back into the stands in right field for his 27th homer of the season.

The multi-homer game was the second in four days for Davis and the 20th of his career. He knocked in five runs, giving him 77 RBIs for the season, the second-best total in the majors.

A’s closer Blake Treinen came on to strike out the side in the ninth for his 26th save.

Lou Trivino (8-1), the fifth A’s pitcher, got the win after pitching a scoreless eighth.

Robinson Chirinos hit a three-run home run in the second inning, helping the Rangers build their early lead against A’s starter Edwin Jackson.

Oakland opened the scoring against Rangers left-hander Martin Perez with a run in the top of the first on an RBI double by Matt Olson.

The Rangers moved in front in the second inning when Chirinos followed walks to Jurickson Profar and Joey Gallo with a blast to center field for a 3-1 advantage. The homer was his 13th of the season.

Texas upped the lead to 5-1 in the fifth and knocked out Jackson in the process. Rougned Odor and Adrian Beltre singled home runs in the inning.

Jackson was charged with five runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out four.

Oakland got within 5-4 in the seventh when Davis smacked his 26th homer, off Rangers reliever Cory Gearrin, with Josh Phegley and Lowrie aboard.

Marcus Semien and Stephen Piscotty also collected two hits apiece for the A’s, who have begun a seventh-game trip with three straight wins.

Adrian Beltre had two hits, including a double, for the Rangers, who fell to 5-7 against the A’s this season.

Perez went the first six innings, allowing just one run on seven hits. He walked three and struck out four.
